A Bit About Hood Summit
A Healing Space Rooted in Truth, Culture, and Community.
Hood Summit is a monthly symposium powered by Heal PTHD (Post Traumatic Hood Disorder) and sponsored by the County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation. Our mission is to provide a safe and intentional space where community members can confront, discuss, and heal from the traumas inherited and normalized by life in the hood.
Each summit centers around a critical theme that impacts our lives—ranging from Manhood, Womanhood, Childhood, and Familyhood, to deeper explorations of Financial Trauma, Materialism, and Hip-Hop’s influence on behavior and identity.

This summit was a powerful community presentation on Post Traumatic Hood Disorder (PTHD), featuring genuine dialogue, delicious food, and good vibes. We came together not only to share experiences but to begin the healing process and support one another on this mission to Heal PTHD.
Honoring Those Who Walked Before Us
At the Hood Summit: Ancestorhood, we focused on reconnecting with the wisdom, resilience, and spiritual power of our ancestors. We discussed how generational strength has been passed down—sometimes consciously, sometimes silently—and how reclaiming that connection can heal personal and collective wounds.
Breaking the Baby Momma/Baby Daddy Mentality
At the Hood Summit: Parenthood, we explored how hood-based trauma has shaped unhealthy models of parenting, co-parenting, and family structure. We confronted the traps of the "baby momma/baby daddy" culture that often create division, resentment, and generational pain within Black families.
How Did You Survive South Central?
At the Hood Summit: Gangsterhood, we took a raw and honest look at how growing up in gang culture shaped the mindset, behaviors, and survival tactics of people from the hood. Participants shared personal testimonies about the trauma, loyalty, fear, and false sense of identity that gang affiliation often created.
Healthyhood: Healing the Body, Mind, and Spirit
At the Hood Summit: Healthyhood, we explored the deep connection between physical health, mental wellness, and spiritual balance within our community. We tackled how Hood-Based Trauma has led to cycles of poor diet, stress, untreated mental health issues, and generational neglect of self-care.
Familyhood: Don’t Talk, Just Listen
At the Hood Summit: Familyhood, we brought the community together to reflect on how our individual experiences in Manhood and Womanhood have shaped the way we form families. Instead of debating or blaming, participants were asked to simply listen—to hear the hidden pain, the broken expectations, and the generational patterns that have impacted Black family structures.
Healing the Identity Wound
At the Hood Summit: Racehood, we examined how racial identity has been weaponized, distorted, and internalized within Black communities. The conversation addressed how systemic racism, colorism, and cultural miseducation have shaped our self-image and created divisions amongst ourselves.
At the Hood Summit: Material-Hood, we explored how materialism has impacted the mindset and financial stability of Black communities. The discussion centered around how consumer culture—fueled by dopamine-driven spending and brand loyalty—often replaces deeper values like spirituality, character, and purpose.
