A Bit About Jasir
Jasir Franklin | Founder • Author • Speaker • Curriculum Developer
Jasir Franklin is the founder of Heal PTHD (Post-Traumatic Hood Disorder) and author of PTHD: How to Rewire Hood-Based Trauma. He is the creator of a growing body of trauma-informed programs designed to address the psychological, cultural, and environmental effects of Hood-Based Trauma.
Born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, Franklin has transformed lived experience into a platform for education, prevention, healing, and community transformation. His work combines trauma education, neuromusicology, character development, cultural awareness, and practical strategies that help people recognize how environment, experiences, relationships, and media can shape behavior.
Franklin's work has brought him into spaces including UCLA, Pasadena City College, Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (DMH), Los Angeles Suicide Prevention Network (LASPN), Los Angeles County Parks & Recreation, LAUSD schools, CSU Dominguez Hills, and other educational and community-based organizations throughout Los Angeles.
He is the creator of Check the Rhyme Academy, an innovative youth curriculum examining how music and media influence thoughts, emotions, identity, and behavior. His additional programs and initiatives include Rewire Academy, Rewire Your Purpose, Your Playlist Is Programming You, Dream Teens, Big Homie Coaching, Father in You Rewired, Time Out, Reset Sundays, and The Power of Ori.
Through his book, workshops, school programs, community events, keynote presentations, and signature “Playlist Suicide” presentation, Franklin challenges audiences to examine not only what happened to them, but what those experiences may have programmed them to believe about themselves and the world around them.
His work is driven by a simple philosophy:
“Once you can name the wound, you can stop blaming the scar.”
Franklin's mission is to take the conversation about trauma beyond diagnosis and into neighborhoods, classrooms, families, music, culture, and everyday life—healing individuals, transforming communities, and changing culture from the inside out.

PTHD is an educational framework describing the long-term psychological, behavioral, emotional, and environmental effects of growing up in communities impacted by chronic violence, poverty, instability, and generational trauma.
While not a clinical diagnosis, PTHD provides language and tools that help communities better understand how environmental trauma can shape identity, relationships, decision-making, leadership, health, and opportunity.

Custom presentations available.
My work is also informed by years of studying Indigenous African wisdom traditions, particularly Ifá.
Within these teachings, concepts such as Ori (purpose and inner guidance), Ìwà (character), and Àṣẹ (the power to bring intention into action) provide additional tools for personal reflection and transformation.
These teachings are not presented as religious requirements.
Instead, they serve as one of several lenses through which individuals can better understand identity, responsibility, healing, and purpose.
For organizations seeking a secular presentation, spiritual content can be minimized or omitted.
For faith-based or culturally focused audiences, these principles can be explored in greater depth.
My goal is to meet every audience where they are.
